The Class, off the Mat
Distilled from fifteen years of collective practice, Field Study is the digital somatic-education container and global community for curious students and seasoned practitioners, created by The Class and born from the method founded by Taryn Toomey in 2011.
Field Study is a digital learning vessel for somatic education, unfolding through live events, digital lectures, courses, and certified training programs.
The inaugural 200-Hour Certification in Somatic Education launches Fall 2026. Available online worldwide, it is a balance of self-study lessons, recorded content, peer group sharing, and real-time interactions with The Class Teachers—all grounded in human connection and global community.
Introducing the Inaugural Field Study Certification Program
Somatic Education
A six-month, four-course, 200-hour immersion grounded in the ceremony, science, and living lineage of The Class, as founded by Taryn Toomey.
Developed by Co-Facilitators, The Class Teachers, and experienced practitioners Jaycee Gossett and Aimee Cox, the Somatic Education curriculum moves through physiology, breath mechanics, nervous-system literacy, and the art of facilitation.
Calling in practitioners, movers, educators, healers, creatives, and all those who are curious, Field Study functions as a multidimensional framework. The program weaves together various modalities, bodily intelligence, and lived experience, inviting understanding to emerge through sensation, inquiry, and embodied practice.

The Curriculum
Sixteen modules across four courses — from the method, into the body, through the self, and out toward others.

Field Study is committed to ensuring that a portion of every cohort is made up of practitioners, movers, and educators for whom cost would otherwise be a barrier — chosen not as a matter of discounting, but as a deliberate investment in who carries this work forward. The Field Study Fellowship formalizes that commitment.
Fellowship recipients receive the full program experience and all standard inclusions (lifetime curriculum access, alumni channels, Certificate of Completion, six months of live calls and community, peer group, Class Digital Studio membership, retail discount, and first access to future courses) on identical terms to paying students.
The Fellowship is not a needs-only award. Applications are considered holistically, weighing the following:
Relationship to the work — evidence of an existing or emerging practice as a mover, teacher, healer, or educator, or a clear articulation of why somatic education is the next step in the applicant's path.
Intention and reach — a specific, credible sense of what the applicant will do with the certification: who they will teach, where they will bring this work, or how it will extend their existing practice.
Financial need — self-attested; no tax documentation or formal proof required. Applicants describe, in their own words, what the cost of the program would mean for their ability to participate.
Contribution to the community Field Study is building — applicants who would extend the range of voices, backgrounds, and lived experience within the teaching community are given particular consideration, though this is one factor among several rather than a standalone requirement.
Full Fellowships are reserved for applicants who most fully embody all four criteria — the strongest fit between practice, intention, need, and community contribution.
Active employees are not eligible for the Fellowship program, The Class will develop an employee program for team members to have select access to Field Study separate from the fellowship.
Fellowships are valid only for the cohort awarded and are non-transferable to a future terms.
Awards under this program will be made in compliance with all US federal and local laws, including prohibiting awards being made unlawfully on the basis of race, national origin, religion, creed, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information or any other protected characteristics
Applications open: August 5 Applications close: August 14 Committee review: August 17 - 27 Decisions communicated: August 28
Confirmation window: Recipients confirm their spot within 3 days of notification, or the spot is offered to a waitlisted applicant.
Fellows will gain access to the Field Study app upon acceptance. The fall cohort will begin on September 24, 2026.
Applicants will use the link above to complete the application online.
They will respond to 4 questions, (roughly 150–250 words each):
1. What is your relationship to The Class? What does The Class mean to you?
2. What draws you to somatic practice, and where are you in your relationship to it today?
3. What would you do with this certification — who or what would it serve?
4. What would financial support mean for your ability to participate in this program?
They will submit a 2-3 minute video reflection to complete the application.
We are only opening 150 spots in the inaugural certification program launching September 2026. We expect that first group to sell out quickly. We do intend to open up additional cohorts by early 2027, if not sooner. If the September cohort sells out, we will update this website with information on future openings.
