The Method

An intentional practice

The Class is a music-driven somatic exercise method founded in 2011 by Taryn Toomey to regulate the nervous system and release stuck energy by moving the physical body. Guided by our brilliant, extensively trained Teachers, each Class integrates a unique combination of movement, breath, music, and sound release to create physical, mental, and emotional openings. Challenging the physical state while nurturing the emotional with an emphasis on the mind-body connection—The Class is both an individual experience and a collective practice. Designed for all levels and types,  available both online and in-person, The Class can be whatever you want, whenever you need, wherever you are. From playful and joyful to challenging and cathartic, every practice is your own.

The music

Music and artistry are embedded into the ethos of The Class. Every practice is individually choreographed to an intentional soundtrack curated by the Teacher. In 2020, The Class launched music collaboration partnerships, which have since become one of the most celebrated collections in our Digital Studio. We hold immense gratitude to all of the artists, past and future, who musically come into this space and share their gifts with us.

The benefits

  • Intentional engagement of specific muscle groups for extended periods of time builds strength and resilience in the physical body.

  • Activate the parasympathetic nervous system—plus recenter and restore the body—through stretching, breathwork, and meditation.
  • Practice interoception and proprioception, both important aspects of body awareness, to better understand the relationship between the physical body's movements and its internal state.
  • Reset and restore your nervous system through a combination of breathwork, meditation, and movement that fosters an understanding of embodiment.
  • The Class integrates breathwork and sound release to create space for emotional regulation and stress release.
