The Method
The Class is a music-driven somatic exercise method founded in 2011 by Taryn Toomey to regulate the nervous system and release stuck energy by moving the physical body.

Guided by our brilliant, extensively trained Teachers, each Class integrates a unique combination of movement, breath, music, and sound release to create physical, mental, and emotional openings.

Grounding Warm-Up
Invites students to arrive in their bodies and settle into the present moment by focusing on the breath, releasing distractions, and centering both body and mind for the movement ahead.

Repetitive Movement
Calls on repetition to challenge both strength and endurance through familiar cardio and strength-based exercises like jumping jacks, burpees, and squats.

Breathwork
Breath provides a steady pulse, creating heat and energy within the body, while calming the mind and soothing the system; it is the thread that weaves together the physical and emotional.

Sound Release
Sound acts as a valve, facilitating the release of energy, emotion, experiences, thoughts, and feelings within the body through the voice. It is always an invitation—never a requirement.

Closing Sequence
Students are invited to rest, activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which encourages relaxation and recovery, allowing the work to integrate within the body, heart, and mind.

The Class is both an individual experience and a collective practice.
Intentional engagement of specific muscle groups for extended periods of time builds strength and resilience in the physical body.
Traditional cardio blasts (jumping jacks, burpees) and frequent interval training (systematically raising and lowering the heart rate) stretch your cardiovascular system, produce sweat, and detoxification.
Activate the parasympathetic nervous system—plus recenter and restore the body—through stretching, breathwork, and meditation.
Practice interoception and proprioception, both important aspects of body awareness, to better understand the relationship between the physical body's movements and its internal state.

The Music
Music and artistry are embedded into the ethos of The Class. Every practice is individually choreographed to an intentional soundtrack curated by the Teacher. In 2020, The Class launched music collaboration partnerships, which have since become one of the most celebrated collections in our Digital Studio. We hold immense gratitude to all of the artists, past and future, who musically come into this space and share their gifts with us.

Everything you might want to know before joining your first Class.
The Class blends movement, breath, and sound to help you release tension and reconnect with yourself. Instead of focusing on how the body looks from the outside, the practice is guided by how it feels on the inside. Through somatic movement, breathwork, and vocal release, you'll build strength, improve mobility, and clear patterns all while becoming more present in your body.
Some of the movements may feel familiar if you've tried Pilates, Yoga, cardio, or bodyweight training like squats, planks, core work, jumping jacks and burpees, yet the way they're combined makes The Class a completely unique experience.
Your subscription gives you access to a robust library of hundreds of on-demand workouts, including The Class's signature method, Sculpt, yoga, breathwork, curated playlists, themed collections, 10–15 minute Quick Hits, and a beginner series. Everything you need to build and sustain a well-rounded movement practice. You'll also have access to daily livestream Classes from our NYC and LA studios, all streamable on desktop, phone, tablet, or TV.
Classes are livestreamed at least four times a day, every day of the week. Most Livestream Classes are available for 12 hours after they begin, giving you the flexibility to practice throughout the day. Our schedule is designed to accommodate most time zones (in countries where The Class streaming is available), allowing you to find a time to stream almost anywhere in the world.
